Cervical Screening Initiatives Program

3/27/2009

Did you know that Newfoundland and Labrador has the highest incidence of cervical cancer in the country? If that statistic is not alarming enough, only 30% of women in this province have an annual pap test - a procedure that can detect cervical cancer in the early stages. Early detection is key to the survival rates.

The Women's Committee of FFAW/CAW would like to urge all women in Newfoundland and Labrador to take the time to have their annual examination. We know it is a struggle in many communities to see a physician and women are not always comfortable with male practitioners performing their exams. We have been in contact with the Provincial Cervical Screening Initiatives Program co-ordinators and have compiled a list of clinics throughout the province where screening can be done.
