Union Accuses ASP of Union Busting

February 24, 2010

ST. JOHN’S, NL — FFAW/CAW President Earle McCurdy, backed up by the entire Inshore Council of the Union, will be holding a press conference today to release details of the attack by fish processors in the province against the Union, the Standing Fish Price-Setting Panel and the whole system of collective bargaining in the Province's inshore fishery.

Mr. McCurdy said a letter to the Provincial Government from the Association of Seafood Producers (ASP) this week demonstrates that ASP was planning a war against the Union at the same time they were pretending to co-operate with the Union and Government through the MOU signed between the parties last summer.

Mr. McCurdy described the ASP tactics as "union-busting".

The Press Conference will be held at the Anchor room in The Battery Hotel in St. John’s starting at 1:30 p.m.
