FFAW/CAW wins fight to get EI pilot projects extended
Thousands of letters, phone calls and emails have made a difference. You have made a difference.
Just hours before Stephen Harper called the election, the federal government announced it would extend two important EI pilot projects. This decision was followed by a flood of letters, emails and calls to MPs over the past few weeks by our members.
The best 14 weeks provision (which allows a person’s benefit to be calculated based on their best 14 weeks of earnings in the previous 52 weeks) has been extended to October 2010.
And the ability for a person to earn as much as 40% of their EI benefit while on claim before deductions has been extended to December 10, 2010.
Once again our efforts to ensure the EI program works a little better for working people has met with success.
We congratulate all our members who used their voices, their pens and their activism to make sure this happened. Your actions have made a difference not just for yourselves but tens of thousands of working people across the country.
Congratulations. And Solidarity.
