FISHERIES AND OCEANS CANADA NOTICE TO FISH HARVESTERS nf.14.349B 2014-294 Dec. 15, 2014 Herring Fishery for Mobile Gear Purse Seine Herring Closing in Conception & Trinity Bay DFO advises that the Herring fishery for Mobile Gear/Purse Seine in Conception Bay Herring Fishing Area (HFA 7) and Trinity Bay (HFA 6 )will close at 1500 hrs on December 15, 2014.

FISHERIES AND OCEANS CANADA NOTICE TO FISH HARVESTERS nf.14.350B   Dec. 15, 2014 3Ps COD CLOSURE FOR INNER ST. MARY'S BAY FLEET DFO advises fish harvesters that the 3Ps cod fishery for the less than 90 foot fleet, based in Inner St. Mary's Bay, will close at 2000hrs on Monday, December 15, 2014, in accordance with the conservation harvesting plan (CHP) for this fishery.   This includes vessel classes A256, A257, A258, A259, A260 and A261.

Traceability meeting in Grand Bank on Dec. 18

A meeting will take place for LFA 11 in Grand Bank for any lobster harvesters who have not been able to make previous traceability meetings. The meeting will be held on December 18 at 1:00 pm at the Masonic Hall in Grand Bank. It will cover an introduction to traceability, outlook for the 2015 season as well as give harvesters an opportunity to sign up and ask questions.

The traceability meeting scheduled in LFA11 (Burgeo) on December 17 has been cancelled due to the highway closure. The meeting will be rescheduled in the New Year.

FISHERIES AND OCEANS CANADA NOTICE TO FISH HARVESTERS nf.14.346B 2014-290 Dec. 8, 2014 Herring Fishery for Fixed Gear/Bar Seine (Tuck Seine) Re-opening in Bonavista Bay DFO advises that the Herring fishery for Fixed Gear/Bar Seine (Tuck Seine) in Bonavista Bay (Herring Fishing Area 5) will re-open at 0600 hrs on December 9, 2014. Fish harvesters are advised to listen to 2598khz or VHF continuous Marine Radio for the latest information.

FFAW-Unifor will be holding a meeting for all fish harvesters in St. Mary’s Bay on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the Legion in Riverhead at 1:00 pm. A meeting will follow with the oil tanker representatives at 2:00 pm.

Traceability Meeting in Burgeo on December 17

FFAW-Unifor will be holding a meeting in Burgeo for lobster harvesters in LFA 11. The meeting will be held on December 17 at 2 pm at the Fifty Plus Club. The meeting is open to all harvesters and will be regarding the expansion of the traceability project into that area for the upcoming 2015 lobster season. Harvesters will be introduced to traceability, the progress of the project to date and given the opportunity to both sign up and ask questions.
